Thursday May 7 – Celia in concert, Celtic & More (7pm)
Celia’s talents go far beyond singing. …Her comedy is exquisite.
The audience never knows when one of Celia’s friends will drop in.
These characters are Celia’s alter egos, whose antics typically leave
the audience howling with laughter.
In 2003, Celia released “Breathe,” produced by popular Wisconsin
singer/songwriter, Willy Porter. Several cuts are co-writes with
Porter. In 2007, she released “Red Alabaster & Blue,” featuring songs
of freedom and social justice. The CD contains the song “Symbol,”
which tells the moving story of a soldier killed in Afghanistan, whose
widow was denied the right to place the symbol of his religion on his
government-furnished grave marker.
Celia often uses sophisticated “looping” technology to perform duets,
trios, and even larger ensembles with herself. Nothing is
pre-recorded. She lays down a track then using the looping technology
harmonizes with herself ? all live and in real time. The result is an
amazing listening experience for the audience. Her next album, slated
to be released by the end of 2009, will be a compilation of live loops.
Excelling in both music and comedy is quite rare, which is one of the
things that make Celia unique. One commentator said of her:
“She has a silky smooth voice that she uses to deliver music so
beautiful that it would be the envy of a choir angel. And, she has a
sense of humor and comedic timing that would tickle the funny-bone of
the dourest sour-puss around.”
